Palazzo dei Pio di Savoia

Known as “Il Castello” – or, “The Castle” – by Carpi locals, the Palazzo of the historic Pio family is comprised of several buildings dating from the medieval era to the 18th century. The rooms and chambers still bear frescoes full of tales and testimonies of the time.

Open for visits, we recommend booking a guide to take you through the meanderings of the evocative rooms such as the Amore and della Dama rooms, amidst myths, history and legends.

The Palace hosts numerous exhibitions, some of which are permanent – such as the City and Xylographic exhibitions – whilst others are temporary. Also in the historical complex is the Museo del Deportato, dedicated to the darkest page of contemporary history from the fascist-Nazi period.
